Our desktop address software,
has two different levels of searching. The first option returns the FULL
Address, from the royal mail Post Office Address File (PAF),
information from a postcode entered, or advanced word search.
The second option, which is
cheaper of the two, simply returns the address record, less the Organisation
name and Building name. This is called Thoroughfare address information. The user then has to manually enter the
Building Name/Number and Compansy name if required.
Below shows these, two types of
Postcode Address searches in operation, to return address information from
the Post Office Address File (PAF).

Full Address Search
from given Postcode
Simply enter a postcode in the
search box, then press find:
Then double click on desired
address in list to get full PAF Address from given postcode.
Speed Postcode Search
For speed, the user can enter
the house number or the start of the house name after
postcode.
So for example, entering PO7
4RW,ma will find every house beginning with "ma"
Word search
If you know the
address is at "8 Victoria Rd, Wisbech, Cambs", but want the Postcode or
full address, we can enter:
"8 victoria wisbech"
Or if we don't know how to spell some of the words we enter:
"8 vic* wis*"
The search will show a maximum of 100 lines.
Tip: Its always a good idea to use the most distinctive
part of the address, as the results returned will be more exact.
Availability: This word search functionality is
available on all our search interfaces, which means if you have our
system integrated into your software, you will have this address word
search available to you. This functionality is turn off, for Web
credit and Local data, based licences.

Excessive searches, without using the address, will be charged for.

Full Address Advanced Search
The Full address
offers an "Advanced Search" facility too. Clicking on the
[Advanced Search] button allows the user to enter address criteria:

Examples:
A customer may not know the Postcode for their address but will know
parts of the address, such as:
I live at Number "8", "Victoria Rd" in
a town called "Wisbech"
So we enter:
or get all streets containing a word, beginning with "Vict*"
Tip: Always try to perform the search as above.
Simply use start of words which are distinctive, such as "vict*"
for "Victoria Rd"
My company is called "M & J Accoustics" in "Cambridgeshire"
I live at a house called "Buckingham House", in
a City called "London"

Note: The
Advanced search facility is currently only available in the Desktop and
COM object for programmers.
Thoroughfare Address (Street Level) search from Postcode
Having entered the
postcode to search for, this License returns partial address from Postcode. The user enters the
premises name/number for the postal address. This is cheaper than FULL
address but not so convenient since the user has to type the Name or
number of building.

When
using the the thoroughfare license the user must enter the building name or
number, before using the address The
Desktop Client can be forced to
always use a Thoroughfare License by selecting "Options
>> Use Thoroughfare License" menu. This allows some
users to use Full PAF Postcode Lookup Address searching, and others to use
the cheaper PAF thoroughfare licenses.
